Samsung today unveiled the third iteration of the Z Flip series at their Unpacked event. Released alongside the Z Fold 3, the Z Flip 3 sees quite a redesign on the outside and four new colours, namely Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black. We got a first look at the device a few days ago, let’s check it out!

So then let’s start on the outside. The first obvious thing is the new outter display. 4 times larger than the previous generation Z Flip, the Z Flip 3 comes with an outer 1.9-inch Super AMOLED Display. The display comes with a whole lot of interactivity including new Cover Screen widgets to check your mail, or the weather, monitor their daily step count or control music.

As someone who has been using the original Flip for almost a year now, this I would say could be the most useful feature on the new Z Flip 3.

Cases

Display and Protection

Once you open up the phone, the first thing in front of you is the 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display(22:9) 120Hz Infinity Flex Display. It’s a really big upgrade from the display on the original Z Flip and shows you how far foldable displays have come.

Now there is still a crease but like I’ve always said, it’s something you stop noticing 2 days into using the phone.

Protection wise, there’s Gorilla Glass Victus protection on its back, Armor Aluminium which Samsung claims as being one of the toughest on any smartphone on its hinge and a protective film across the main Infinity Flex display, which makes it 80 per-cent more durable.

Power under the hood

The Z Flip 3 runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip with 8GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of storage. With Android 11 and One UI 2.1, the Z Flip 3 internally is really an extension of what we saw last year. We even have Flex Mode which allows you to use the phone with a split screen on the same app. For example, apps such as YouTube where you can watch the content above and interact in the comments below. 

Cameras

As far as cameras are concerned, we’ve got the same dual 12MP camera setup on the back with a wide and ultra-wide sensor. Unlike the Z Fold 3, the Z Flip 3 retains a normal selfie punch hole 10MP camera. While the cameras are the same as last year, let’s leave final decisions on camera quality until after we do our full review of the device. 

Battery and Charging

Last but not least, the Samsung Z Flip 3 will come with a 3300 mAh battery, 15W charging, 10W wireless charging, 4.5W reverse wireless charging and no charging brick or headphones come with the device.
