Saqib Ali For Maryland State Delegate District 15

Must Read

My name is Saqib Ali and I’m running for Maryland State Delegate from Legislative District 15 in Montgomery County. I am a proud Democrat and a long-time resident of North Potomac. I’m running because I want to make sure that our children inherit a Montgomery County with the best schools, roadways, public transportation systems and environment possible.

District 15 encompasses the Western and Northern parts of Montgomery County including all or parts of Potomac, Darnestown, Poolesville, Germantown, North Potomac, Boyds, Clarksburg, Dickerson and Beallsville.

I’m a 46-year-old Pakistani-American Software Engineer who lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I live with my wife and two daughters Mashallah. I’ve been very active in the Montgomery County Democratic Party for nearly 20 years. During that time, I’ve advocated for numerous progressive policies such as Medicare For All, opposing the war in Iraq, standing up for human rights, making our tax policies fairer, building more affordable housing, etc.

In 2006, I was elected and served 4 years in the Maryland House of Delegates. Now I’m campaigning to return to the same position I held during that time, Maryland House of Delegates, District 15.
My top three priorities, if elected are as follows:
1. Decarbonize our economy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
2.Fight against the criminalization of Blackness and poverty
3. Repeal racist and latent Islamophobic laws that are in effect in Maryland

I have a long track-record of progressive political activism. Everyone knows that I will fight for regular people — not corporations, political insiders and moneyed interests. That’s why voters should pick me.
One of the things I am most famous for is leading the successful effort to close the schools in Montgomery County on Eid Holidays. Before, the schools would close only for Christian and Jewish Holidays — not Muslim ones. I led a multi-year campaign to convince the School Board to treat Muslims equal to adherents of those other faiths. People can read more about it here: http://bit.ly/eid-mcps
