Arriving nearly a month after the launch of the 750e xDrive PHEV, BMW today has introduced the EV (electric vehicle) variant of its seventh-generation 7-series luxury sedan. Officially designated as the i7 xDrive 60, this all-electric model is offered solely in an M Sport configuration, and is touted to offer more performance when compared to its hybrid-based sibling.

As you’d expect, the overall look for the new BMW i7 xDrive 60 closely resembles the other variants in the carmaker’s 7-series line-up. What sets it apart from the rest is the addition of the M Sport exterior kit that gives the EV a more aggressive appearance. Besides the new front and rear bumpers, also featured are a set of 21-inch M Aerodynamic 909 M alloy wheels in a Jet Black finish, Chromeline exterior trim, Iconic Glow lighting system, automatic soft-close doors, and Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof.

Moving to the inside of the EV, we’re greeted with an interior decked out in BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, M leather steering wheel, and Executive Lounge rear seating with a dedicated 31.3-inch touchscreen console for passengers. Speaking of digital interactivity, featured in the i7 xDrive 60 is the BMW Live Cockpit Plus system with a decently large display, which consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment centre. Besides that, also onboard is a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, a wireless phone charger, customisable ambient lighting and roller sunblinds.

In terms of performance, the BMW i7 xDrive 60 is equipped with a pair of electric motors on each axle, which is touted to deliver 544 PS (536hp or 400kW) and 795Nm of torque. These are said to enable a century sprint time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed that’s limited to 240km/h. According to the automaker, the EV’s onboard 105.7kWh battery is capable of granting over 600km of driving range based on the WLTP standard.

For charging, the all-electric 7-series features a Combine Charging Unit (CCU) that allows for AC charging at up to 22 kW via a Type 2 connection, which enables for a full charge in about 5.5 hours. It also comes with DC fast charging via a CCS2 connection with up to 195 kW, allowing for a 80% charge in just 34 minutes.
