CBI has registered six FIRs. The cases were referred to it by the state government. During his recent visit to Manipur, Union home minister Amit Shah had said that CBI would file six FIRs – five on the alleged criminal conspiracy and one on general conspiracy behind the ethnic violence in the state.
The number of incidents could be higher as many cases of violence have been clubbed in FIRs, said another official.
On Tuesday, Manipur government’s security advisor Kuldiep Singh said 230 bombs of different kinds have been recovered. The authorities have also recovered nearly 1,100 arms, out of more than 4,000 looted.
Officials said no additional central forces have been requested from the Centre. Senior officers from Indian Army, and central armed police forces are visiting and camping in vulnerable areas. The combined team of state and central forces have intensified combing operations in the state.
According to state authorities, movement of essential items along NH-37 has been ensured and on Tuesday, Imphal-bound 253 loaded vehicles left Jiribam, Imphal-bound 191 loaded vehicles left Noney and Jiribam-bound 361 empty vehicles left Keithelmanbi, Imphal-West.The Indigenous tribal Leaders’ Forum on Wednesday said that no tribals have attacked Meitei villages after the initial few days of violence which started on May 3. More than 110 people lost their lives and 310 others were injured in the ethnic violence in Manipur.
