Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, talked to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the phone, seeking India’s backing for the Ukrainian Peace Formula.

Yermak said he and Doval talked on Tuesday and discussed preparations for the Global Peace Summit while he urged the NSA on the need to involve the widest possible range of countries, including nations from the Global South.

“Recent events have once again proven that the Ukrainian Peace Formula is more relevant than ever – for both Ukraine and the whole world. We are actively working with partners to prepare the Global Summit on the implementation of the formula. We expect India to take part in it,” a press release by the Ukrainian Presidential Office said.

However, there was no word from the Indian side about the telephone call. Sources told ET that Yermak’s Peace Formula is nothing new and has been raised with the Indian NSA in the past, too.

Yermak has spoken to Doval a few times before as well. Earlier, Yermak dialed Doval in February seeking India’s support for the Ukrainian Peace Plan. Before that, both the interlocutors reportedly spoke in January.

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the first time since the onset of Russia-Ukraine war. Both Yermak and Doval were part of the delegation. Modi had reiterated his call for dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward to the conflict. In the statement, Yermak also alleged that by blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, Russia committed a “deliberate terrorist act and another war crime”. “This is one of the largest modern crimes of ecocide. The aggressor has caused an unprecedented man-made, environmental and humanitarian disaster, as well as created a threat of a nuclear accident at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, Zaporizhzhia NPP,” Yermak alleged.
