Fujifilm Malaysia has officially launched its X-S20 APS-C mirrorless camera for the local market. Even though the product was already announced back in May, one major detail revealed during today’s event is its date of arrival. According to the brand’s local managing director Kensuke Aragane, the all-new shooter will be available in the country from 29 June 2023 onwards.

In case you missed our previous report, here’s a quick recap of the Fujifilm X-S20. For starters, the newer model mostly resembles the three-year-old X-S10, its predecessor. Some noteworthy design changes include the increased size of some dials and buttons, the addition of a second audio jack, and an improved handgrip to provide users with better control and comfort. On the back of the camera is a 3-inch vari-angle touch display with 1.84M dots resolution and a 0.39-inch OLED electronic viewfinder with 2.36M dots resolution, while on the left-hand side is a micro HDMI and a USB-C port. Meanwhile, found on each side is a 3.5mm jack for external microphones and headphones, whereas on the right side is a single UHS-II SD card slot.

Internally, the camera is equipped with Fujifilm X-Trans 26.1MP stacked CMOS APS-C sensor, along with the first-party X-Processor 5 imaging chipset. The X-S20 offers a native ISO range of 160 to 12800 (expandable from 80 to 51200), continuous shooting of up to 1,000 JPEG or compressed RAW images via mechanical shutter, or up to 256 JPEG or 79 RAWs via electronic shutter. There’s also a built-in five-axis in-body stabilisation system which offers up to seven stops of shake correction, and improved autofocus as well as tracking capabilities with deep AI learning integration. The latter of which enables for a lot of quick and precise shots, thanks to advanced detection features for face, eyes, and different subject types (birds, vehicles, etc).

Additionally, the new Fujifilm X-S20 also comes with significant improvements to video capture. Chief amongst which is its capability to record at up to 6.2K resolution at 30p in 4:2:2 10-bit colour, which is a leap over its predecessor’s limit of 4K 30fps. Then there’s the new Vlog Mode which places focusing and tracking priority to the presenter, a Product Priority Mode that emphasises more on the presented product instead, and a Live Stream Mode which lets the device function as an external webcam for PCs or Macs.

Besides that, the new camera supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 wireless connectivity, and is claimed to offer up to 85 minutes of 6.2K video recording or around 750 still shots on a single charge via its included 8.7Wh NP-W126 removable battery. You can juice up as well as power the camera directly through a USB-C cable, which also doubles for file transfers when connected to a compatible device. Last but not least, Fujifilm adds that the X-S20 supports its FAN-001 cooling fan accessory for extended video recording, which attaches to the compartment hidden behind the vari-angle screen.

As previously announced in May, pre-orders for the all-new Fujifilm X-S20 are still available via the brand’s official online store and local authorised retailers such as Shashinki and Camera2u until 25 June 2023. It is priced at RM6,888 for body only, RM7,388 with the 15-45mm kit lens, or RM8,888 when bundled together with the 18-55mm kit.
