“There appears to be no letting up in the enormous disaster that has engulfed Manipur for the past seven weeks. The home minister visited belatedly, after a month, and the nation must be thankful for small mercies. But why is the prime minister still silent? Why doesn’t he visit the state and make an appeal for reconciliation between the communities? Why can’t he at least encourage an all-party delegation to go to Manipur,” asked Jairam Ramesh, AICC communication in-charge, on Wednesday.
Congress spokesperson Ajoy Kumar wondered why the PM has not yet made any comments on the situation in Manipur. “The PM has not made a single comment, not even a tweet on Manipur. The situation in Manipur is the most dangerous situation in the country today, that too in a border state. And yet Modi Ji is brilliantly silent,” Kumar said.
FARMERS’ STIR in HARYANA
Congress has extended its support to the ongoing farmers’ agitation at Shahabad in Kurukshetra, seeking minimum support price for sunflower, and condemned the police lathi-charge on them. It blamed the Centre for the farmers’ plight as it has not implemented the promise of legal guarantees for MSP.
Demanding that sunflowers be procured at MSP and the detained farmers be released, Congress spokesperson MP Deepender Hooda said, “During the farmers’ movement, the prime minister himself had promised an MSP committee to farmers, by implementing it properly, legal guarantee of MSP should be given. We will strongly raise the issue of non-compliance of the government’s promises in Parliament.” Hooda hit out at the Haryana government over the lathi-charge on farmers at Shahabad.
