After the recent meeting between Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP chief JP Nadda and Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the talk of a possible alliance between the two parties have gained ground.

Amid the buzz, Shah and Nadda will be visiting Andhra Pradesh to address two separate meetings to mark the nine years of Modi government.

Shah will address a public meeting at Visakhapatnam on June 8 while Nadda will address a public meeting in Tirupati on June 10.

Apart from the public meetings, the two leaders will meet the party workers and state leaders to gauge the election mood and the possible alliance.

Andhra Pradesh is one of the few states where the BJP’s organisation hasn’t grown much. There are 45,950 booths in Andhra Pradesh and sources tell ET that BJP has been able to form a booth committee on around 15,000 booths till date. The local leaders say that this is a good number considering the bipartisan politics of the state. The BJP currently has no Lok Sabha MP or MLA. Its Rajya Sabha MP CM Ramesh had joined the party from TDP.

Among the state leaders, there is a clarity that if the party has to win seats in the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections, it will have to join hands with local parties. However, they are waiting for the signal from the national leadership. There is also talk of change of leadership at the state level. Andhra Pradesh state BJP president Somu Veerraju’s term is ending in June and several leaders are in the race to replace him. The names of PVN Madhav, Y Satya Kumar, CM Ramesh are doing the rounds.
