NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has identified asteroids that will come in close proximity to Earth in coming days. The asteroids, code-named 2023 HO18, 2023 JR2, 2023 JRE5, 2023 KW2, 2018 KR will come in close proximity to Earth on 4 June, 6 and 7 June, as per NASA JPL. The size of the four of these asteroids is size bigger than an airplane while one that of the size of a house.

The size of these asteroids ranges at 99, 120, 110, 200 feet. As per Newsweek report, the size of Boeing 737 is around 94 feet long which means that each of these asteroids are as large as an airplane.

Asteroids are known as minor planets that consist of rocky, airless debris from the early stages of the solar system’s formation. They are also considered as leftovers from the formation of the solar system, and they orbit the sun in elliptical circles. On average, Earth is about 239,000 kilometres away from the moon.

Five asteroids approaching Earth

Asteroid 2023 HO18: As per NASA JPL, this asteroid is 93 feet long and on June 4, it will be at a distance of 467,000 km from the earth.

Asteroid 2023 JR2: This Asteroid is about 120 feet and will be at a distance of 6,510,000 km from the earth on June 4.

Asteroid 2023 JRE5: Sized at 110 feet, Asteroid 2023 JRE5 will be 6,750,000 km from the earth on June 4 as reported by NASA JPL.

Asteroid 2023 KW2: On 6 June, as per NASA JPL, 200 feet Asteroid 2023 KW2 will approach towards earth. Its closest earth approach will be 4,530,000 km. This asteroid is almost twice the size of an airplane.

Asteroid 2018 KR: On 7 June, a house-size asteroid will be approaching towards earth which will be 2,470,000 km closest to the earth.

Earlier on 2 June, as per the Newsweek report, a smaller asteroid named 2023 KZ2 sized around 68 feet which that of the size of a house was forecast to past the Earth.

As per NASA Asteroid Watch, about 32,103 all sizes of asteroids have been identified near-earth. 852 have been identified as asteroid larger than 1 km while 10,472 discovered are larger than 140 meters.
