The time has come for Hong Kong residents to plan for their trips in 2024, whether it be graduation trips or vacations with their loved ones.

According to a government announcement on Thursday, workers will enjoy 17 public holidays next year, with four long weekends.

For workers who work on weekdays, properly using their annual leaves can allow them to enjoy longer breathing time away from work stress.

The most economical option will happen between March and April, where workers can take leave on April 2 to 3 and April 5 to prolong their holidays to 10 days.

A nine-day holiday will also be within grasp in February by taking leave from February 14 to 16.

Meanwhile, as the second day of the Lunar New Year in 2024 falls on a Sunday, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year will be designated as a public holiday in substitution.

Separately, statutory holidays in Hong Kong will be increased progressively to 17 days from 2022 to 2030. The newly added statutory holiday from this year onwards is the first weekday after Christmas Day, totalling 14 statutory holidays.

The other three additional statutory holidays in sequence will be Easter Monday (from 2026), Good Friday (from 2028), and the day following Good Friday (from 2030).
