Congress leader Ambika Soni has declined the offer to be the next chief minister of Punjab.

Congress leader Ambika Soni has declined the offer for the post of the next Punjab chief minister, sources said.

A veteran Congress leader and a Gandhi loyalist, Ambika Sonia was brought into the party by Indira Gandhi in 1969. Her father was the district collector of Amritsar during the partition and worked closely with Nehru.

Ambika Soni also worked with Sanjay Gandhi and headed the party’s frontal organisations. Ambika Soni hails from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district and has been a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab several times.

On Saturday, Captain Amarinder Singh submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Captain Amarinder Singh said that he felt “humiliated” by the actions of the Congress party’s national leadership.

He made the announcement at a press conference after handing over his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

As per sources, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, current state unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, party leaders Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Brahm Mohindra, Vijay Inder Singla, Punjab Congress working president Kuljit Singh Nagra and MP Partap Singh Bajwa are also in the race for the position.
