Nebraska and Oklahoma haven’t played each other since 2010, but clearly no love has been lost between these former Big 12 rivals if their pregame skirmish is any indication.

Roughly 20 minutes before kickoff of Saturday’s game between the Cornhuskers and third-ranked Sooners, Oklahoma’s team crossed midfield to jeer at a few straggling Nebraska players. The only thing separating the teams was the Cornhuskers coaching staff, though the remainder of Nebraska’s team ended up joining before the “skirmish” disbanded.

According to a report from TV station KETV (Omaha, Neb.), Nebraska coach Scott Frost and athletic director Trev Alberts were angry at officials. The incident prompted no penalties for either team.

Pregame wasn’t the only time Nebraska showed up to play the Sooners. The Cornhuskers faced a surprising 7-3 deficit at halftime, limiting the Sooners to just 200 yards of offense and 2 of 5 on third down attempts. The only score Nebraska allowed was on the Sooners’ opening drive: a 14-play, 75-yard drive that took 6:58 off the clock. Quarterback Spencer Rattler (13 of 19, 105 yards, three rushes, 9 yards), punched it in on a goal-line sneak.

Whether Nebraska can end up taking this game from the heavily favored Sooners (a 22.5-point favorite entering Saturday’s game) remains to be seen. But say this for Frost’s team: It’s not backing down from Oklahoma, game on or not.
