Empowering Queens For All- Felicia Singh Democratic Nominee for City Council in District 32

Queens, NY – The Queens County Young Democrats has announced their endorsement for Felicia Singh, Democratic Nominee for City Council in District 32, joining several elected officials who announced their endorsements earlier this month.

Felicia Singh is an educator, the proud daughter of working-class immigrants, and a lifelong resident of District 32. Singh is running for New York City Council with the priorities of fully funding schools, supporting small businesses and workers, climate and environmental resilience and accessible transportation. District 32 is the last remaining Republican-held seat in Queens, despite being a majority Democratic district. Felicia is running a campaign rooted in organizing, and committed to centering the most marginalized voices in the district.

Felicia Singh is running for the last Republican-held city council seat in Queens against the chair of the Queens Republican Party, who endorsed Trump for re-election. This seat is currently held by Eric Ulrich, who is term-limited and holds one of the three remaining Republican seats in the 51-seat NYC Council.

Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-1 in District 32, which includes the neighborhoods of Belle Harbor, Breezy Point, Broad Channel, Howard Beach, Lindenwood, Neponsit, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Rockaway Beach, Rockaway Park, Roxbury, South Ozone Park, West Hamilton Beach and Woodhaven.

QCYD announced their endorsement saying, “The Queens County Young Democrats are proud to endorse Felicia Singh for City Council. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and help Felicia, who we know will be a champion for progressive ideals in the City Council.” According to their website: “The Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD) is an organization of Democrats between the ages of 16 and 36, dedicated to advancing the highest principles of the Democratic Party and inspiring the participation of all people in politics, public policy and service.”

“I am thrilled to have the support of the Queens County Young Democrats,” said Singh.

“QCYD focuses on involving our younger generation in the political process. They do this through education and organizing with a commitment to on-the-ground efforts like registering voters and marching against hate and bigotry. I’m proud to have their support as we expand the electorate together”

Earlier in the month, Felicia Singh was endorsed by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi, Assemblyman Khaleel Anderson and City Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers.

If Singh is elected, she would be the first woman, the first Punjabi and Guyanese person, as well with her identities as a Sikh and Muslim person to represent District 32 in the City Council.

Singh has a coalition of over 50 endorsements from community organizations, labor unions, electeds and leaders including Working Families Party, Bangaldeshi Americans for Political Progress, Sunrise Movement NYC, The Jewish Vote, NYHTC, 32BJ SEIU, NYSNA, CWA District 1, District Council 37, UAW Region 9A, UNITE HERE Local 100, PSC CUNY and NASW-PACE.
