Distinguished community leaders and guests were gathered to welcome New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Councilwoman Linda Lee, and Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar. The event was organized by renowned businessman and contractor Goldy Singh and hosted by former New York State Candidate Japneet Singh.
The community had a great dialogue with Speaker Adams about the needs and demands of the Sikh community. The 5 main wants were:
1. Passing Bandi Chhor Diwas as a holiday
2. Declaring April as Sikh Heritage Month in the City of New York
3. Educate Sikhs and other minority groups about opportunities to get government contracts
4. Create a more inclusive education system that teaches about the various different types of religions
5. Address the increasing crime including the hate crimes against Sikh community members
