Toyota Kirloskar Motor today unveiled its hybrid mid-size SUV, called Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the Indian market. The brand today commenced the bookings of the Hyryder SUV at Rs 25,000 across all Toyota dealerships in India. Production of the upcoming Toyota midsize SUV will begin in August and we can expect an official launch to follow sometime in September 2022.
Internally codenamed as ‘D22’, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV is developed under the partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The Hyryder SUV will be manufactured alongside the Suzuki version at Bidadi plant in Karnataka.
“This latest offering will also be equipped with several first-in-segment features, including strong hybrid tech. It will be manufactured at the recently refurbished Bidadi plant. The hybrid SUV will also be exported to international markets,” says Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar.
The brand states that the Hyryder will contribute to Toyota Vision 2050 under which the manufacturer aims to reduce 90% new vehicle CO2 emissions.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Features
In terms of exterior, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will boast a muscular bonet, Glanza-like front grille and split LED DRLs with a thin chrome strip and a large air dam. The SUV gets 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, a hybrid badge on the front door, body cladding with skid plates and wraparound LED tail-lamps.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder interior comes equipped with Toyota i-Connect’s 55+ features, smartwatch connectivity, a 9-inch SmartPlay cast infotainment system, voice control, remote A/C on and off, remote vehicle recognition, vehicle health and more. Moreover, the Hyryder SUV cabin will also get a dual-tone finish on the dashboard, wireless charging, a HUD, and a panoramic sunroof.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Specifications
Mechanically, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is available in two powertrains – Neo Drive and self-charging strong hybrid electric powertrain which will use a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 105 hp and 122 Nm, along with the motor’s 59 kW and 141 Nm. Combined power output will be 85 kW (114 hp). It will be offered with the option of a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed AT, plus an eCVT with the strong-hybrid variant.

The Hyryder SUV will be offered in 7 Monotone and 4 dual-tone exterior colours. Monotone colour options include Sportin Red, Cave Black, Enticing Silver, Gaming Grey, Speedy Blue, Cafe White and Midnight Black. Dual tone colour options are Cafe White (with Black roof), Enticing Silver (with Black roof), Speedy Blue (with Black roof) and Sporting Red (with Black roof).

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Expected Price and Rivals
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 2022 price in India is likely to start from Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go all the way up to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The Toyota midsize SUV will rival with the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and Mahindra Scorpio-N in the Indian market.
