These are our favourite things… right now.
Healthy meal planning with… Colour My Plate
Some meal plans are good while others can be downright awful – and I’ve tried too many to count. But I believe I’ve sourced the best yet and it’s called Colour My Plate. Meals so far have included keto lasagna, salmon niçoise salads, and healthy kibbeh – and while portions are smaller, the quality of ingredients and flavour profiles are making this plan much easier to stick to. I’m paying Dhs2,620 for the five-day, lunch, dinner and snack package, and so far, it’s well worth every dirham.– Laura Coughlin, Head of Content
Giggling hard at… The Laughter Factory
Local comedy club The Laughter Factory never fails as a top night out. On Friday, April 15, they’re bringing British stand-up sensation Jason Manford to Dubai’s Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach on JBR, so if you’ve no plans I’d hot-foot it to the website and try your luck with a last-minute ticket. Failing that, the next gigs are in May as part of Dubai Comedy Festival. – Laura Coughlin, Head of Content
Rolling back the years at… Cornerstone Clinic
Dr Maurizio Viel is a well-recognized figure in the world of cosmetic procedures, with clinics in London’s Harley Street and Dubai’s Healthcare City. He’s recently expanded his healthcare offering to the new Cornerstone Clinic in the heart of Dubai Marina. Conveniently located in Grosvenor House, the new Cornerstone Clinic is a beautifully contemporary space finished in neutral hues and soft creams, and offers an array of aesthetics and wellness treatments. This includes one of the most popular quick-fixes for those looking to turn back the clock, botox. After completing a quick consultation form, you can talk through your concerns with the experienced practitioner, who can advise on the best areas to focus on, and the optimal amount required. It’s quick, largely pain-free and provides lasts between four and six months. – Alice Holtham, Group Digital Editor
Eating one of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in Dubai at… Yingsu
I was so sad to see Ramusake close its doors, but fast forward two years it’s been replaced by Yingsu, and having checked it out in soft opening I can say it’s a top addition to the JBR dining scene. Inside the restaurant, long rows of restaurant tables give the feel of a communal dining hall. Yingsu wants to be the place diners come to party, and the music certainly gives that feel. And while it would be easy for the restaurant to forgo a focus on the food, the menu is packed with all the tasty classics you know and love from a Chinese back home, combined with some more inventive options. Order the asparagus and black truffle scallops, you won’t regret it. – Alice Holtham, Group Digital Editor
Eating deep dish pizza at… Emmy Squared
This Yas Bay restaurant has been on my must-try list for a while and this week I finally got to attack the menu at Abu Dhabi’s new home of Detroit style pizza. It was worth the wait. I put on quite the spectacle tearing through slices of the distinctive square-shaped pizza. The fluffy, buttery focaccia-like dough, caramelised cheesy “frico” crust, and the diverse range of deluxe toppings — give rise to the realization that there really isn’t anywhere else quite like this in the UAE. My recommendation — The Emmy — banana peppers, red onion, ranch sauce. Hits everywhere a slice of Americana should. – Miles Buckeridge, Online Reporter
Booking in for a little self-care at… Taj Exotica’s Jiva Spa
I realise spa reviews are a privilege, but after being asked to get a men’s facial for a feature in the upcoming mag, I pushed back. Blinded as I was, by cinematic stereotypes of cucumbers on eyes and towels wrapped around the head, I just felt they weren’t for me. I don’t think it was a macho thing, I just genuinely couldn’t see the appeal. But Jiva at the new Taj Exotica on Palm Jumeirah, has changed me, and I’m here to share the news my brothers, facials really are ‘it’. It’s just a very calming ritual, with a face massage (which is massively more enjoyable than it sounds), the soothing aromas of lotions and potions, and I don’t know if my face was glowing afterwards or not, but it doesn’t matter because I found a level of almost gestational calm. – Miles Buckeridge, Online Reporter
Soaking up the views at… Villamore
The Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah have given its restaurant, Villamore, an Insta-friendly upgrade. I’d suggest grabbing a table outdoors while you still can – weather permitting, of course. It’s all oh-so sophisticated. The Mediterranean vibes are strong, from the Breton-patterned sofas and sun loungers to the tasty tapas menu. If you order one thing, make it the duck breast – it’s return-worthy good. The best bit? The uninterrupted views of Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina. – Kohinoor Sahota, Online Reporter
Admiring the views at… The View at The Palm
Once you’ve done the big daddy of viewing platforms – Burj Khalifa, that is – visiting another observation deck might not be at the top of your list. I was proven wrong, however, when I visited The View at The Palm, as it offers jaw-droppingly gorgeous views of Palm Jumeirah. After it recently went one step further – or two storeys, to be precise – by opening The Next Level, you can go ten meters higher on glass steps and marvel at the beauty of the man-made island. Trust me: you’ll be cooing your way through this one. – Kohinoor Sahota, Online Reporter
Enjoying the best-selling burger…at Slaw
I’ve been trying to be healthy this week, but when a photo of the Chicken Sando from Slaw – our Highly Commended What’s On award-winning burger restaurant – popped up on my Instagram this week, I couldn’t get it out of my mind. So, I took a friend down to their new branch in Barsha to try it out and we were not disappointed. The golden-fried chicken comes with slawed berg and cucumbers, and Slaw’s ‘Oh Yeah’ sauce all perfectly nestled in a potato bun. It’s a must-try and one of their best sellers. Oh, great, now I want to eat it again….– Aarti Saundalkar, Junior Online Reporter
