In the lead-up to the 2021 NFL Draft, Alabama’s Mac Jones was viewed by most as the fifth-best QB available. Fast-forward to the middle of the 2021 regular season and the consensus now seems to be that Jones has been the best QB of the rookie class, and it’s not even close. His former coach at Alabama, Nick Saban, is not surprised. Neither is Tyrann Mathieu. And Jones isn’t simply putting up good numbers on a bad team. His play has the Patriots poised to return to the postseason after missing out last season. Yes, the AFC right now is hyper-competitive, so there’s no guarantee that Jones does help New England return to the playoffs, but either way, Bill Belichick and the Pats have to sleep easy at night knowing that they likely have their QB for the foreseeable future already on the roster.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. Jones has already led the Pats to six wins in 2021. In NFL history, only 20 first-year QBs have helped their teams win seven or more games during their rookie seasons, with Jones looking poised to become No. 21 sooner rather than later. So with that in mind, how many of the 20 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
