GQT Pittsburgh Mills Cinemas is expanding its viewing experience for moviegoers by adding two auditoriums.

General Manager Sharon Goldstein said the expansion comes after a steady increase in patrons over several months.

“It has always been our plan to expand, and knew it was the right time to do it now,” she said.

The expansion grows the available auditoriums from six to eight. Goldstein said the new screens will allow for more movies to be shown and opportunities for patrons to reserve private rentals.

“We are excited to be able to do this so quickly,” Goldstein said. “To see moviegoers come back is very exciting.”

GQT Movies opened in late March under new management. The theater replaced Cinemark, which closed a year ago. At its peak, Cinemark had 18 screens open. GQT is working on rebuilding its other auditoriums after Cinemark took all of the movie equipment.

Goldstein said more auditoriums will become available, depending on crowd growth.

“We are hoping to have it all back open. We will be watching the growth and make decisions necessary for the building,” she said.

GQT Movies, formerly known as Goodrich Quality Theaters, is a mid-sized theater chain based in Michigan. The Pittsburgh Mills location is its first in Pennsylvania. The owners and managers of Pittsburgh Mills are also partners in GQT.

Theater hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Saturday, depending on the movies being shown. Tickets for seniors, military members, students, children and afternoon matinees are $5.75, while all tickets are $5 on Mondays and Tuesdays.
