JAKARTA, March 26 (Xinhua) — The number of poll workers who died in the 2024 general elections in Indonesia rose to 181, said Chairman of the General Election Commission Hasyim Asy’ari on Tuesday.
“There were 181 people who died, members of the PPK (district poll administrations), PPS (sub-district poll administrations), and KPPS (local poll administrations),” said Asy’ari.
In addition, 4,770 poll workers had accidents or illnesses while performing duties.
A total of 374 sick poll workers and 114 families of deceased poll workers have received compensation as of Feb. 25.
Indonesia held general election on Feb. 14, involving 6.8 million poll workers.
In 2019, the number of poll workers who died was 894.
