Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sharif Fathy, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Cairo, Dominic Goh, alongside the CEO of the company organizing the “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition, Ron Tan and his accompanying delegation at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat.

During the meeting, the possibility of extending the duration of the “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition at its next stop in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, from six months to nine months was discussed.

This extension aims to accommodate visitors from various Japanese cities who will be eager to see the Egyptian artifacts and experience the ancient Egyptian civilization. Marketing studies conducted by the company in the Japanese market predict that the exhibition will attract thousands of visitors and achieve great success, given the Japanese people’s fascination with the ancient Egyptian civilization.

The meeting aimed to discuss organizing a number of temporary archaeological exhibitions around the world to introduce and promote ancient Egyptian civilization.

Discussions also touched on the possibility of extending the duration of the exhibition and organizing it in other countries around the world after its conclusion at its fifth and final stop in Tokyo.

This decision comes in light of the great success the exhibition has achieved in the various countries that have hosted it since the beginning of its journey in November 2021 in Houston, USA, and until July 2024 at its fourth stop in Cologne, Germany.

The possibility of organizing a number of temporary archaeological exhibitions that tour the world and feature various archaeological themes was also raised. These exhibitions would narrate different historical periods belonging to the ancient Egyptian civilization.

The minister initially agreed to all proposals pending further study.

A golden exhibition

The “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition features 180 carefully selected artifacts from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir from the era of King Ramses II.

In addition, it also features the sarcophagus of King Ramses II from the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and other artifacts from the discoveries of the Egyptian mission in the Bubastis area of Saqqara, as well as collections from other Egyptian museums.

These artifacts highlight some of the distinctive characteristics of ancient Egyptian civilization from the Middle Kingdom to the Late Period, through a collection of statues, jewelry, cosmetics, paintings, stone blocks decorated with inscriptions, and some colored wooden coffins.

The exhibition began its journey outside Egypt at its first stop in November 2021 in Houston, US, followed by its second stop in August 2022 in San Francisco, US, then its third stop in April 2023 in the French capital, Paris, and its fourth stop in November 2023 in Sydney, Australia, and its fifth stop in July 2024 in Cologne, Germany.
