JAKARTA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia’s eastern Central Papua province on Saturday, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.
The tremors happened at 08:14 a.m. Jakarta time (0114 GMT) with the epicenter being 49 km southeast of Intan Jaya regency at a depth of 170 km, the agency reported.
Indonesia, an archipelagic nation, is prone to earthquakes for its position in a vulnerable quake-hit zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire.”
