As half of the Earth will witness the rare event of total solar eclipse on Monday, ISRO’s Aditya L1 will track the behaviour and rays of the Sun simultaneously during the rare celestial event.
Total Solar Eclipse Live Updates
Millions of skywatchers eagerly wait for the rare event during which the Sun will be completely obstructed by the Moon, prevailing complete darkness in several countries.
During the total solar eclipse on April 8, the Sun, Moon and Earth will align in a straight line, leading to darkness during the daytime.
About Aditya L1
Aditya L1 is the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s maiden solar mission, which was launched to track the Sun and phenomena on its surface. Tracking the changes in the Sun during the eclipse would help the ISRO further study the chromosphere and corona of the star.
Aditya-L1 was launched by the Indian space agency last year, and it reached the Lagrange Point 1 (L1 point) earlier this year on January 6, four months after it was launched. The Aditya L1 carried six instruments with it as it continued to track and observe the Sun from the Lagrange Point, which is 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth.
The ISRO satellite will track the Sun during ‘Surya Grahan’ with the help of two of its instruments, which are the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) and the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT).
Total Solar Eclipse on April 8
Half of the world will witness the spectacular event of total solar eclipse on April 8. During the eclipse, the Moon will completely obstruct the path of the Sun making a thin corona of the Sun visible from Earth (for a short duration).
Will the total solar eclipse be visible from India?
The total solar eclipse will not be visible from India. However, it will be enjoyed by people from the US, Canada, parts of South America, etc. Sun’s corona will be briefly visible from Earth.
