Smartphones don’t usually work well when wet, if at all. You’ll have likely experienced this yourself after washing your hands, but maybe not drying them off properly. OnePlus seemingly has the solution to this, which was showcased as a key feature for one of its upcoming phones, the Ace 2 Pro.
The video showing off the tech was shared on Weibo, demonstrating the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro in a number of scenarios with water being sprayed on screen to emulate rain. Alongside it is an iPhone 14 Pro, judging from the Dynamic Island. Without the tech that is wet fingers-friendly, the latter naturally struggles quite a bit, with inputs being erratic or ignored completely in equal measure. The former, on the other hand, works as if it was bone dry.
From the video title, the tech itself is called Rainwater Touch, though it’s not clear what exactly does the tech consist of. But according to GizmoChina, it consists of “a custom screen chip and three new core touch algorithms” within the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro.
The report also comes with a spec figures for the phone, which includes a 6.74-inch 2772 x 1240 120Hz AMOLED screen with bezels measuring 2.17mm. Peak brightness is rated at 1600 nits, with certification for HDR10+ also being part of the screen package. At the back, it is noted to have a 50MP main + 8MP secondary + 2MP depth sensor triple camera combo. The leaked spec sheet, light as it may be, as well as the teaser video showing of the screen tech, indicates that the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro will be launching in its home market sometime soon.
