CK Asset Holdings and Li Ka Shing Foundation have donated over HK$3 billion in the past five years for improving livelihood of people, says executive director and deputy managing director Kam Hing-lam.

Kam speaking at a forum organised by seven business associations at the Chinese general Chamber of Commerce said CK Asset and the Li Ka Shing Foundation have supported people and enterprises in a number of programmes, including providing relief money to small and medium-sized enterprises during the social unrest in 2019.

They also supported private hospitals to receive non-Covid patients from the public sector and have been donating to the Community Chest and other livelihood related projects.

Kam said the most urgent task at hand is to strengthen the economy as financial market transactions shrink, property prices fall and the city’s competitiveness drops from first place in 2017.

He agreed with Premier Li Qiang that “the economic pie should be made large enough before sharing it” and believed reasonable returns and a high degree of economic freedom could attract more large enterprises and high-asset individuals to invest in Hong Kong.

With the multiplier effect, people’s income will gain momentum, he added.

Chinese general Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong general Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association and the Chinese Importers’ & Exporters’ Association jointly issued a letter calling the business community to deploy resources to support the government’s land and housing policy.

They suggested the community donate or lend land for transitional housing, participate in the construction of subsidised flats, and increase the supply of youth hostels, so as to address the housing needs.
