India has lodged 47 fresh covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the union health ministry data stated on Monday.
Meanwhile, the number of active cases has declined to 1,655 taking the total number of covid cases to over 4.50 crore so far.
For the last three months, the covid cases drastically declined after surge in cases due to XBB.1.16 Omicron variant.
The covid pandemic which started in early 2020 has killed around 5,31,903 (5.31 lakh) people in the last 3-and-half-years.
Hospitals are witnessing empty covid wards due to decline in covid cases which is a sign of great relief for doctors. However, people who are elderly and have comorbid conditions are still vulnerable to catch infection. Furthermore, doctors have recommended such people to take their booster dose if not done yet and follow covid appropriate behavior.
In addition to this, scientists say that people in India have developed hybrid immunity (due to vaccination and natural infection), therefore, the present covid-19 variants will not be able cause hospitalization and severity as it is mild in nature.
Around 4,44,60,441 (4.44 crore) people have recovered from the infection so far and 42 recoveries were noted in the last 24 hours. The current recovery rate touching 98.81 %.
The health ministry advised to the state governments to examine the situation of covid-19 at micro level (district &sub-districts) and maintain focus on implementation of necessary measures for prompt and effective management of covid-19 duly ensuring effective compliance.
The government has asked the states to follow the five-fold strategy, i.e., Test-Track Treat-Vaccination. Around 25,224 tests were conducted in a day taking total number of tests to 92.93 crore.
Under the covid vaccination drive, more than 220.67 crore vaccine doses have been administered to the people across the country so far. In the last 24 hours, around 145 vaccine doses were administered.
