GABORONE, June 20 (Xinhua) — Botswana’s national men’s beach volleyball team is looking to make history by qualifying for the World Beach Games at the 2023 Africa Beach Games scheduled for Hammamet, Tunisia from June 23 to 30.

The six-member team will be competing in the 4 vs 4 beach volleyball format at the second edition of the Games organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). Speaking to Xinhua before their departure to Tunisia, coach Kabelo Marumo said the team was in good spirits, and was confident that they would do well.

The team is boosted by the country’s high performing pair of Jack Sekao and George Chiswaniso who are currently ranked first in the continent in the 2 vs 2 version of the game.

Team captain Sekao said despite not being too familiar with the 4 vs 4 format of the game, the principles of play remain the same, and he added that they believe they have what it takes to defeat any opponent at the Games.

The Africa Beach Games are qualifiers for the World Beach Games billed for Bali, Indonesia from August 5 to 12.

Botswana’s men’s team has also qualified for the Beach Volleyball World Championships scheduled for October 6 to 15 in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala.
