The Seattle Seahawks paid a huge price to land Jamal Adams and sign him to a big-money deal, but injuries have seriously limited his availability over the past two years.

Even worse, he might not be ready for the start of the 2023 season.

Head coach Pete Carrol said on Thursday that he isn’t yet concerned about Adams’ ability to play at the start of the season, but that the team needs to wait until it gets to training camp to see how he performs.

“We’ll see,” was Carroll’s official stance, via NFL.com, and it is still too early to tell.

Adams signed a four-year, $70M extension with the Seahawks prior to the 2021 season after being acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Jets. Seattle sent a huge package of picks to New York that included two first-round selections.

Since signing that new contract, however, Adams has played in just 13 total games for the Seahawks.

That has been a huge loss for a Seattle defense that struggled at times during the 2022 season.

When healthy Adams has been one of the best safeties in the league and played at an All-Pro level.

If the Seahawks can get him healthy and back to that level it would be a game-changer for their defense. Seattle was one of the biggest surprise teams in the NFL last year but badly struggled on defense.

This is a make-or-break year for Adams in Seattle since he has no guaranteed money remaining beyond this year. If he is not healthy or productive it would be no big deal for the Seahawks to move on.
