Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is going to launch his ambitious ‘Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Scheme’ on Saturday in Jabalpur. The scheme was announced in the current year’s budget. Under the scheme, ₹1,000 per month will be given to the women aged between 23 and 60 years. A minimum income criterion has been fixed for eligibility of the women and registrations were going on for the past few months.

As per the state government sources, 1.25 crore women will receive their first installment of ‘1,000 at a click of a button on Saturday. The money will be transferred to their account on the 10th of every month.

There are 1.89 crore women in the state falling in the age bracket, of which 1.25 crore are eligible to avail the scheme.

This is one of the biggest poll planks by the Chouhan government before the upcoming assembly elections. The BJP feels it would be a game changer in the upcoming state elections.

Chouhan, in the past, had launched several schemes targeting women voters, including Ladli Laxmi, Mukhyamantri Kanyadan, among others.

“June 10 will be a historic day for women empowerment in MP. Through DBT, a monthly support of ‘1,000 will be credited in the accounts of beneficiary women and it will empower them socially and they could lead a respectful life with the money,” VD Sharma, MP BJP president told ET. “Under the leadership of PM Modi and CM Shivraj Chouhan, BJP has always aimed at helping the poor, women and youth of the state. This is just another attempt to help the women,” he added. The Congress had earlier announced that it would provide Rs 1,500/month to women if it comes to power in the state.
