“We need to hire again and hopefully, if people are not too mad at us, rehire some of the people who were let go,” Musk was quoted as saying.
“Desperate times call for desperate measures. There’s no question that some people who were let go probably shouldn’t have been let go. We simply didn’t have time to figure out… we had to make widespread cuts. This is not to say that everyone let go from Twitter is terrible or something,” he added.
Why Twitter may rehire sacked employees
Musk faced a lot of criticism after taking over the reins of the social media platform in 2022. Some of its controversial moves included mass layoffs, reinstating banned accounts, suspending journalists and charging for services which were free earlier.
Musk laid off nearly 50% of the company’s workforce in November 2022. Later, he also directed employees to commit to an “extremely hardcore” work culture to fulfil his vision of a new Twitter.
Recently, Musk announced that Linda Yaccarino is set to become the new Twitter chief over the coming weeks. Yaccarino joined NBCU in 2011, after working at Turner Entertainment for 15 years. She has also been credited with increasing the network’s ad sales operation into the digital future.
“Twitter is very much an advertising business. Linda is obviously incredible at that and she’s just a great executive in general. Linda will operate a company and I will build products,” Musk noted.
