China Airlines (CAL), one of Taiwan’s top international carriers, said Monday it will launch its new route between Taiwan and Gimpo Airport in western Seoul, South Korea on July 6.

CAL said it will fly three round-trip flights between Kaohsiung International Airport and Gimpo Airport per week using a Boeing 737-800.

Flight CI184 bound for Gimpo will take off at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and arrive at its destination at 6:15 p.m. local time.

The return flight CI185 bound for Kaohsiung will leave Gimpo Airport at 7:15 p.m., one hour after its scheduled arrival, and arrive in Kaohsiung at 9:15 Taiwan time.

Gimpo Airport is located on the far western end of Seoul and was the South Korean capital’s main international airport prior to the opening of Incheon Airport in 2001.

According to CAL, the new route will offer residents of southern Taiwan quick and easy access to many of Seoul’s popular tourist attractions, such as the Hongdae neighbourhood, Myeong-dong shopping district and N Seoul Tower, while also encouraging Korean travellers to explore southern Taiwan.

Ahead of the maiden flight on July 6, CAL said it is offering round-trip economy fares on the new route as low as NT$8,200 (US$266) before taxes.
