The Hawks faced the Heat in the play-in Tuesday night. They didn’t expect to have to face trade rumors as well.
A day after the ever-mysterious NBA “sources” reported that Hawks ownership was putting Trae Young on the block, Atlanta’s front office scrambled to reassure their star that the report was inaccurate.
Young led the league in total assists this year. He is signed through 2026, with a player option extending to 2027. But with Atlanta bringing in a new coach and a new
front office, there’s a sense that anyone could be traded.
However, Atlanta says it won’t be Young. And Young rewarded their faith in the Hawks’ play-in victory, scoring 25 points, dishing seven acrobatic assists and even grabbing eight rebounds.
Young came through for his team and grabbed the seven seed. Next up is a matchup with the Boston Celtics, and a summer where Young is staying put — for now.
