DEHRADUN: After heavy overnight rain in Kedarnath and adjoining areas in Uttarakhand, an avalanche occurred early Saturday morning.
There has been no damage to the Kedarnath temple and the Char Dham yatra has not been interrupted or stopped, officials said.
Chairman of Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) Ajendra Ajay told TOI, “Heavy rain, snowfall, and avalanches are a common feature in the Himalayan region during this part of the year. It rained heavily in the night hours and the avalanche followed on Saturday morning.”

He said that it was far away from the temple premises. “Predicting the distance is not possible but we can confirm that it was far from the temple and in no way it has affected the yatra,” said Ajay.
To recall, on September 22, an avalanche occurred in the catchment area of Chorabari glacier above Kedarnath. The location is said to be roughly 5km behind Kedarnath. A team of experts had gone to the spot to study the situation, officials said.
