When Google unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones last month it also announced a big upgrade for “At a Glance” feature. The new features were first teased by the company in May this year during the annual Google I/O conference. It was expected that the features will go live with the stable version of Android 12 operating system but users are still waiting to try them out. Now, an APK teardown of the app’s recent update by 9to5Google reveals that the features may be available to users soon.
According to the report, the S10 version of the app comes with new string that indicates that the app has an upgraded functionality. As of now, the At a Glance widget shows information about Travel, Alerts, Calendar events, Weather and others. With the update, the app will get an ‘At a store’ feature. With the feature the widget will show shopping lists and Google Pay rewards cards when you’re in a supported store. This feature was first seen when the company teased the Material You design in May.
The teardown also reveals that the widget will be able to show the connection status and battery info for paired Bluetooth devices, show activity info from your fitness app, remind you when your flashlight is on and several other useful features. A few of the features spotted in the update are already available in the app such as “Timer & stopwatch”.
The report also suggests that the company may move the feature to the Android System Intelligence app for faster updates. Google recently also added Adaptive Sound feature to its flagship smartphones. The feature was already available in Google Pixel 4a and Pixel 5. The Adaptive Sound feature uses the microphone on the device to study audio levels and acoustics in the surrounding. It then adjusts the equalizer accordingly to provide better audio output.
