Tile has officially announced its most advanced tracking device. Dubbed as Tile Ultra, it is the first tracker from the company to feature ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. The new Tile tracker is likely to take on the likes of Apple AirTag and will be available in 2022.
The company also claims that Tile Ultra will be the first tracking device to offer UWB support for both Android and iOS devices. It is important to note that there are currently a limited number of smartphones that currently support UWB. Both iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 come with UWB along with some premium Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
The UWB technology is a short-range wireless communication protocol similar to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but it operates at a higher frequency. The UWB technology also enables the device to generate spatial and directional data that makes it easier to find the Tile tracker.
Apart from this, Tile has also added an AR viewfinder in the Tile app to provide users a better perception of the device.
As of now, Tile has not disclosed pricing and exact release date for Tile Ultra, but the company has revealed the design giving us a glimpse at how the device will look like.
From the images posted by Tile, the Ultra tracker will feature a similar design as the latest Tile Pro which features a rounded corners and rectangular shape along with a built-in key ring.
Along with announcing the new Tile Ultra, the company has also updated its existing Tile devices — Mate, Pro, Slim, and Sticker trackers — with better speakers, water resistance and improved range.
