The rivalry must come to an end.

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will complete their trilogy on October 9 with Fury defending his WBC heavyweight title.

The road here was full of twists and turns but they will finally settle their differences once and for all.

After a split draw in December 2018, the two met again in February 2020, with Fury dominating Wilder and stopping him in the seventh round.

The COVID pandemic put the original plans for a third fight to take place in the Summer of 2020 on hold and it appeared that the fight would never materialize as Fury agreed to a deal to face Anthony Joshua to determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era. However, an arbitrator ruled in favor of Wilder and now he’ll get a chance to redeem himself after being embarrassed by Fury last year. The winner will look to get closer to making history while the loser will be history.

According to odds from FanDuel, Fury is the heavy favorite at -350, which means it will take a wager of $350 to see a profit of $100. Wilder currently sits as a +250 underdog, so a $100 wager on the Bronze Bomber would net $250.

Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 prediction

They’ve fought for 18.5 rounds and what we’ve seen is Tyson Fury clearly outbox Deontay Wilder and only get better after each and every round. His thorough domination of Wilder in the rematch meant that Fury had figured it out and Wilder hadn’t. Regardless of the excuses that Wilder put into the atmosphere, all we can go off of are the results and history.

History tells us that Deontay Wilder has one way to win a fight and Fury can win any way that works for him on any given night. The idea of Wilder winning a decision is highly unlikely and although it is sitting at a tasty +1600, it’s not worth it unless you have money to burn.

Fury is the rightful favorite but at -350 it’s a little wide against an opponent who possesses a nuclear weapon in his fists that could detonate at any moment. Granted, Fury was able to pull himself up off the canvas in the first fight and didn’t let Wilder touch him with anything remotely dangerous in the rematch.

That being said, Fury could certainly knock Wilder out again but there should be an expectation that Wilder will improve enough to stay upright. There are two lines with value and that’s Fury by decision at +270 and Wilder by stoppage at +310. Although some may feel that the third fight will be a repeat performance by Fury, Wilder has his back against the wall and will likely approach this fight with a little more caution by using his jab and trying to control distance.

Fury is a phenomenal boxer himself and won’t put himself in danger unnecessarily. He may want to put Wilder away again but he’s conscious of what Wilder brings to the table and cannot expect his opponent to be the same fighter he was last February. But the reality is that Wilder doesn’t throw enough punches, uses his offense as his defense and, most importantly, facing an opponent who is bigger than him and knows how to use it.

Tyson Fury is the complete package. He’s defensively sound, has fantastic footwork and has power in both hands. Wilder only needs one shot but, even then, there’s no guarantee that it’ll put Fury away. Wilder’s pride is on the line and he won’t allow his corner to throw in the towel this time. He’s going to leave it all in the ring and likely come up short by decision.

Sporting News prediction: Tyson Fury by decision (+270)
