You can add Stephon Gilmore’s name to the list of veterans unceremoniously dumped by Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Over the summer, Gilmore was unhappy with his contract changed and subsequently held out in the preseason. He eventually reported, only to be placed on the PUP list, meaning he wouldn’t see the field for the first six weeks of the 2021 season. From there, the writing seemed to be on the wall for Gilmore, and on Wednesday, the Pats shipped him to Carolina for a sixth-round pick. For now, that means Gilmore’s time as a Patriot is over, but New England has a habit of bringing back familiar faces, so don’t be surprised if the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year finds himself back in Foxborough before he hangs ’em up for good.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. The AP has awarded its Defensive Player of the Year Award to the NFL’s most outstanding defender since 1971, including Gilmore, who took home the award just two seasons ago. So with that in mind, how many of the NFL DPOYs can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
