No one will wear No. 16 for the Los Angeles Lakers ever again.
On Tuesday, news broke that the franchise will retire Pau Gasol‘s number, just hours after Gasol announced his retirement from professional basketball. Gasol won two titles in L.A. and last played in the NBA during the 2018-19 season, then sat out the following year with a foot injury. He spent 2021 on FC Barcelona, helping them win their 16th Liga ACB championship and the third of Gasol’s career. Pau’s brother Marc also hung ’em up this offseason, meaning the upcoming NBA season will be the first without at least one Gasol brother on a roster since the 2000-01 campaign.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers are arguably the two most storied franchises in NBA history. Between the two rival franchises, a total of 32 players have had their numbers retired. Gasol’s No. 16 will be number 33. So with that all in mind, how many of those 32 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
