The Alabama Crimson Tide improved to 5-0 on the season via Saturday’s popcorn-grabbing 42-21 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels, but the nation’s top team lost a key offensive contributor in the process.
Per Alex Scarborough of ESPN, Alabama head coach Nick Saban told reporters Monday that running back Jase McClellan will miss the rest of the season because of the knee injury he suffered in Saturday’s win. According to ESPN stats, McClellan is second on the Crimson Tide with 191 rushing yards, 40 carries and five total touchdowns on the campaign.
Scarborough adds that backups Roydell Williams and Trey Sanders should receive more touches in McClellan’s absence behind starting ball-carrier Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson leads the Crimson Tide with 379 rushing yards, 171 of which he earned against Ole Miss. He also scored four touchdowns in that victory.
This season, Williams has 154 rushing yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Sanders, meanwhile, has 83 yards and a score on 20 attempts.
Alabama plays at the 3-2 Texas A&M Aggies this coming Saturday.
