A bench, led by Justice Vineet Sharan, however, refused to stay the FIRs filed by the CBI so far in this connection, for now. The CBI has so far registered 31 cases and filed four chargesheets.
“What is happening is that CBI is issuing notices to police officers in the state,” senior advocate Kapil Sibal said, arguing for the Bengal government. But the bench refused to pass any interim orders. “We don’t have to do it. It is only a week, nothing will happen.”
Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal on August 18 also ordered a separate SIT to probe the other offences committed in the state in the post-poll violence. Justice Sharan said that the state government had made out a prima facie case against the HC order, but it cannot pass orders without first hearing the other side to the story.
