Jon Jones was arrested on Friday in Las Vegas and charged with battery domestic violence and injuring and tampering with a vehicle, according to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.

Las Vegas Metro Police Department officer Larry Hadfield told Raimondi that Jones was arrested shortly before 6 a.m. Friday at a resort. Jones is being held at the Clark County Detention Center, per inmate records obtained by Raimondi, and his total bail has been set at $8,000.

“The facts are still developing, we really don’t know yet the full story so I’m not going to make any comment until I have a chance to talk to Jon and until we see see how this plays out,” Jones advisor Richard Schaefer told ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

Jones was in Las Vegas on Thursday to attend a UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony for his 2013 fight against Alexander Gustafsson. The UFC has not yet released a statement on Jones’ arrest.

A heavyweight debut put on hold?

Jones had been preparing for a move to the heavyweight division prior to his arrest, though he hadn’t nailed down an opponent or date for his heavyweight debut. The 34-year-old told Raimondi on Thursday that he wanted to face the winner of the rumored Francis Ngannou-Ciryl Gane fight.

“I will admit Francis is a bigger one when it comes to the financial side,” Jones said. “But it’s all good. I want the belt, really. I want the belt, I want big money.”

While he is considered one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, Jones’ career achievements have often been overshadowed by his legal troubles. Most recently, he was arrested in March of 2020 on multiple charges, including alleged aggravated-DWI and negligent use of a firearm. He has also been stripped of the light heavyweight title belt multiple times as a result of failed drug tests.

At this point, it is unclear if Jones will face any sort of punishment from the UFC. He has not competed at a UFC event since defending the light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes in February of 2020.
