Chicago Bears quarterback Andy Dalton suffered a knee injury against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and was listed as doubtful to return.
The veteran tweaked his knee on a 14-yard scramble in the first half of Sunday’s contest. He returned for the next series but limped to the locker room before being replaced by rookie Justin Fields.
Dalton completed 9-of-10 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown before exiting. He also had two carries for 25 yards.
Bears head coach Matt Nagy named Dalton the starting quarterback earlier this summer and decided to roll with him despite Fields having an impressive preseason.
However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Bears are “head over heels in love” with Fields. That report also stated the Ohio St. product was in for more snaps against the Bengals.
If Dalton misses an extended period of time, Fields will have to make the most of his opportunity as Chicago’s starter if he wants to keep the job for the remainder of the season.
