Assam Police recovered over 2 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets worth more than Rs 7 crore and arrested four drug peddlers from the state’s Karimganj district on Saturday.
Based on secret information, Karimganj district police had launched an operation in the Bhetairband area, which falls under Ratabari police station along the Assam-Mizoram border, and seized 2.3 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets.
Karimganj district Superintendent of Police (SP) Padmanabh Baruah said that the market value of the seized drugs was estimated at around Rs 7-8 crore.
“We had received an input that a huge consignment of drugs will come and following the inputs, we had launched an operation on Friday. Today at around 11:30 am, our team stopped an Alto car and during checking, police personnel recovered 2.30 lakh Yaba tablets from the vehicle. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 7-8 crore. Our team has arrested four persons,” Padmanabh Baruah said.

The arrested persons were identified as Naziruddin, Sahabuddin, Sultan Hussain and Juben Hussain.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the Karimganj district police for recovering the huge quantity of drugs.
