The Bharatiya Janata Party lodged a complaint with the Election Commission on Tuesday alleging that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress candidate from Bhabanipur, did not disclose about pending criminal cases in her nomination papers for the Bhabanipur by-poll.

Sajal Ghosh, Chief Election agent of BJP’s Bhabanipur candidate Priyanka Tibrewal, today wrote in a written complaint to the Election Commission (Returning Officer of Bhabanipur Constituency) and raised objections to Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee‘s nomination, where she allegedly did not disclose five pending criminal proceedings against her in Assam.

“I beg to object to the nomination/declaration filed by Mamata Banerjee… on the ground that the candidate has failed to disclose particulars of the pending criminal proceedings against her,” he mentioned in the letter and also cited examples of five pending cases in Assam.

Ghosh, in his letter, made detailed mention of the number of cases filed at different police stations in Assam against Banerjee, with case numbers and dates.

Speaking on the issue, Shamik Bhattacharya, BJP chief spokesperson, said, “BJP candidate’s Chief Election agent Sajal Ghosh has already filed the complaint. It has been circulated with the media. Now ECI will take the appropriate decision as BJP has complained that some information has not been disclosed.”

In Mamata Banerjee’s home turf of Bhabanipur, from where the CM got elected twice in 2011 and 2016, a high decibel triangular contest is likely to take place.

In a high-decibel fight, Bhabanipur Constituency will witness a tough battle between Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee, BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal and CPI-M candidate Srijib Biswas.
