Amazon India is reportedly seeing fresh round of job cuts. According to a report by The Economic Times, Amazon is cutting jobs in India across different businesses.
The report claims that The Seattle-based technology giant is letting go of at least 500 employees in India, and the process is ongoing. The impacted employees are spread across different businesses including Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources and support functions. The report further states that the new round of layoffs are part of the additional job cuts announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in March this year. CEO Jassy had said that this round of layoffs will impact about 9,000 employees globally.
Second round of job cuts at Amazon India
The report further adds that as part of the restructuring, certain seller onboarding operations in tier-2 cities like Kochi and Lucknow have also been discontinued. This is second round of job cuts at Amazon India in recent months. Last month, Amazon laid off employees from its cloud computing and human resources divisions.
Amazon announced VSP for employees
In the last round, several Indian employees placed in the L1 to L7 band in Amazon’s Experience and Technology team were reportedly asked to leave voluntarily. Amazon is said to have sent a note to these employees saying that they are eligible for the VSP. According to the company’s note, eligible employees were given the opportunity to resign voluntarily from employment in exchange for VSP benefits. As per the documents, in exchange for leaving the company, Amazon will provide employees with a “lump-sum” severance payment equal to three months of pay, plus one week of salary for every six months of tenure at the company, the documents said.
