Jeep recently launched its all-new mass-market 7-seat Meridian SUV in the Indian market, and the car is positioned in a segment that has been dominated by the Toyota Fortuner for as long as we can remember. So how does the new Jeep Meridian fare against the Toyota Fortuner?

The Jeep Meridian is being offered with a sole 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 172 PS power and 350 Nm torque, available with either a 6-speed MT or an optional 9-speed AT. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner’s 2.8-litre diesel engine puts out 204 PS power and 420 Nm (500 Nm with AT) torque. Toyota also offers the 7-seat SUV with a 2.7-litre NA petrol engine rate at 166 PS/245 Nm.
Transmission options on both the Toyota Fortuner powertrains include a manual transmission, and an optional 6-speed AT. Both the SUVs are offered with an optional 4WD configuration.
Features
On the feature front, the Jeep Meridian gets a wireless charger, USB A- and C- ports, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, terrain modes, ventilated 8-way power adjustable front seats, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control with head-mounted third-row AC vents, as well as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Jeep UConnect, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a premium Alpine audio system.

In contrast, the Toyota Fortuner gets an 8-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree parking camera, wireless charging, powered tailgate with hands-free operation, ambient lighting, a JBL sound system, quad-LED headlamps, sequential turn indicators, and so on.

The Jeep Meridian’s safety suite consists of 6 airbags, hill-start assist, an electronic parking brake, TPMS, 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and traction control.
