CAIRO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) — As Washington pushes ahead with its so-called “Summit for Democracy” despite widespread international opposition, a prominent Egyptian scholar has warned against dividing the world in “black-and-white” terms.

The two-day online event, meant to launch a new global race between two camps, is based on “a purely American classification,” wrote Abdel-Moneim Said, ex-chairman of Egypt’s Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, in an opinion piece on the Egyptian news website Ahram Online.

“One is struck by the occurrence of this summit after frequent acknowledgements of the ‘end of ideology,’ which is to say that the world has become far too complex a place for an idea system based on a world view that claims to have all the answers about the world and how to run it,” wrote Said, also a former board member at Egypt’s Parliament Research Center at the People’s Assembly.

Washington’s show of democracy “clearly has the purpose of creating an ideological instrument to be wielded against China,” he wrote, noting that the U.S. tactics of imposing “a moral blockade ignores the fact that China offers an alternative to the Western model for development which is currently facing more challenges from within democratic countries than from abroad.”

Unlike the United States, the scholar wrote, China “does not push the same type of ideologic brew as the United States.”

“Nation-building continues to be its (China’s) strategic goal, and its global movement is development oriented, especially along the routes of the Belt and Road,” he concluded.
