The New York Jets are sticking with Mike White as their quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday morning, via ESPN.
The news comes as rookie QB Zach Wilson continues to bounce back from a knee sprain he sustained on Oct. 24 against the New England Patriots.
Saleh mentioned in the press conference that he doesn’t want to rush Wilson back from the PCL injury too quickly. The first-year head coach also indicated White got the starting nod because he has been hot through two starts before clarifying he is not permanently replacing Wilson.
White, formerly on the practice squad, threw for 405 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in his first game this season, a 34-31 come-from-behind victory over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
White only lasted one quarter in last week’s Thursday night matchup against the Indianapolis Colts because of a forearm injury, but he is expected to practice Wednesday and be fully healthy for Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium.
Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who the Jets acquired last month from the Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to serve as White’s backup.
