Google Messages might be getting a new feature that will allow users to send good quality photos using Google Photos where the RCS feature isn’t available.
9to5Google has reported that the APK teardown of Google’s SMS/RCS app version 10.4 reveals a new option to enable sharing photos via Google Photos through SMS/MMS. The setting preference is dubbed as Google Photos: Share sharper clarity video in the text (SMS/MMS).
The setting description highlights the fact that the receiver may get a Google Photos link which can be clicked to watch the video. Another fact that the website has pointed out is the ability to watch the Google Photos video right within the app from the chat window. The implementation on iOS devices may be slightly different though and users may need to open the Google Photos link in a browser.
While it may not be a groundbreaking idea of sharing videos using Google Photos, but it is certainly useful. Several brands already have that option like Samsung’s Link Sharing where users can simply select a couple of photos or videos and create a link to share with others via any preferred channel. A similar option is available with Google Photos as well. However, in both cases, users need to manually create the links by visiting the app.
With the feature getting integrated directly to Google Messages app, the first-party solution from Google itself will be a really nice addition to the app and it will make things much easier for users to share videos between different devices especially with iPhones.
