Mike White injury update: Jets QB leaves game with right forearm injury, replaced by Josh Johnson in loss to Colts

Must Read

After taking the NFL world by storm in his first start last week, Jets quarterback Mike White’s second start didn’t go quite as well.

White, who led the Jets to a 34-31 upset of the Bengals in Week 8, left his Week 9 start against the Colts at the end of the first quarter Thursday. According to the Fox broadcast, White suffered an injury to his throwing arm.

White was replaced by Josh Johnson to start the Jets’ first drive of the second quarter and eventually the remainder of the game. The longtime backup led the Jets to a 45-30 loss, dropping the Jets to 2-6 on the season. Johnson saw limited action last week, with 2-for-4 passing for 17 yards and prior to this year, he hadn’t played in the NFL since 2018.

The Jets announced early in the second quarter that White was questionable to return with a right forearm injury.

As it turns out, he never did return and after the game. Coach Robert Saleh shed some insight as to why, but he didn’t seem particularly worried about White’s long-term prognosis when talking to reporters postgame.

Johnson came in and seemingly did his best impression of White, impressing in a backup role in place of an injured quarterback. He finished the night 27 for 41 with 317 yards and three touchdowns as well as an interception.

Prior to leaving the game, White was 7 for 11 for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Even with the loss, the Jets (2-6) remain in third place in the AFC East. They will look to get back in the win column next week against the last-place Dolphins.
