Egyptian gov’t mulls plan to return workers to Libya and Iraq

Must Read

On Friday, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed with Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan the return of Egyptian workers to Libya and Iraq.

A statement by the Ministry of Manpower noted the Libya’s request to use Egyptian labor to implement projects.

Saafan also presented the details of organizing the dispatch of Egyptian workers to Iraq to contribute to the reconstruction process.

The Iraqi market was one of the most important markets for the absorption of Egyptian labor before the US invasion of Baghdad in 2003, about 17 years ago.

Saafan reviewed the steps that were agreed upon with the Libyan side during the talks, which took place within the framework of the eleventh session of the Egyptian-Libyan Joint High Committee between the two countries, hosted by Cairo this month.

The meeting also reviewed the mechanisms that will be taken to dispatch Egyptian workers to Libya, in coordination with the concerned authorities in Egypt.

Saafan pointed out that these mechanisms will include the implementation of training programs for workers to hone their skills in line with the trades and professions required in Libya.

Madbouly had announced in April the signing of an MoU between Egypt and Libya to facilitate the return of Egyptian workers to Libya.

“Before 2011, there were millions of Egyptians working in the Libyan territories, in addition to the intermarriage relations that extended over the course of historical periods. We are now working to bring these relations back to the height of their maturity,” he added.
